Detoxmina Privacy Policy

How we process your data, what information we collect, and what rights you have on the website and inside the app.

Last updatedSeptember 14, 2026

At Detoxmina, we take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, what we use it for, who we share it with, and what rights you have. It is written so you can understand exactly how we process your information, with special attention to the restrictions imposed by Apple and Google on their systems.

Detoxmina is a digital detox and wellbeing app that helps you measure and control your mobile phone usage in a social and gamified way, competing in challenges with your friends. This policy also applies to the website and its waitlist.

If you have any questions about privacy or want to exercise your rights, you can write to us at that address.

  • Controller: Adrian Garrido Godino (Detoxmina)
  • Tax ID: 02577922J
  • Business address: Calle Cañada 10, Humanes de Madrid, Spain

2. What data we collect

We only collect the data needed for the app to work and to offer its social and challenge features. We group it into the following categories:

Account and profile data. Nickname, automatically generated internal account identifier, email address, time zone, and profile picture (if you choose to upload one). This data lets us create your profile, show it to other users, and run the social features.

Device and notification data. Device identifier, model, operating system, app version, and push notification token. We use this data to send you notifications, ensure technical compatibility, and keep the app running properly.

Challenge progress metrics. Information about your participation and the metrics needed to rank each challenge. We do not collect raw device usage; the details are explained in section 4.

Social data. Friend requests and relationships, participation in challenges, and stats from your matchups with other users (wins, draws, losses, streaks, and recent history).

In-app activity data. Your learning progress in the Science module (content viewed, learning paths, and streaks) and other product progress data.

Waitlist data. If you request beta access through the website, we collect your name, email address, and mobile platform to manage your request and notify you about access.

We do not collect GPS location data, contacts, messages, calls, photos from your gallery (except for the profile picture you voluntarily upload), audio, or biometrics. The step count described in section 4 is health data; we do not access medical records or any other categories of health data.

3. What we use your data for and legal basis

We process your data for the following purposes:

Health data (steps), when you take part in a challenge that uses them, is processed on the basis of your explicit consent when you grant the relevant permission on your device. You can revoke that consent at any time in your system settings.

  • To provide the service and its social features: create your profile, manage friendships, let you participate and compete in challenges, and show results to participants. Legal basis: performance of a contract (Art. 6.1.b GDPR).
  • To manage the waitlist: register your request, organize access by platform, and notify you when beta access is available. Legal basis: steps taken at your request before entering into a contract (Art. 6.1.b GDPR). We will not use this data for third-party advertising.
  • To send notifications related to challenges, invitations, taunts, and reminders. Legal basis: performance of a contract and legitimate interest (Art. 6.1.b and 6.1.f GDPR).
  • To maintain and improve the app, and ensure technical compatibility and security. Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6.1.f GDPR).
  • To comply with legal obligations where applicable. Legal basis: legal obligation (Art. 6.1.c GDPR).

4. Respect for Apple and Google restrictions

We design challenges to minimize the data that leaves your device. Android and iOS follow the same principle: selected apps, their tokens, and raw usage remain on your device.

On iOS and Android. App selection and any usage data needed to assess the challenge are processed locally. We do not send selected apps, their identifiers, their tokens, or raw usage time outside your device, and we do not try to infer them.

We only sync Detoxmina-generated metrics that make the challenge possible: in Usage limit, whether you meet the daily limit; in App lock, the time you have requested through breaks. Requested time does not necessarily match app usage time.

  • App selection remains on the device for every challenge type and on both operating systems.
  • Synced metrics are used exclusively to track and rank the challenge.

Step data (health). Step challenges operate under a different framework. With your permission, we read your daily step count through Apple HealthKit (iOS) or Health Connect (Android), and we do sync that data with our servers because it is necessary to rank the challenge. We only use the step count; we do not access other health data.

5. Who we share your data with

We do not sell your data or disclose it to third parties for advertising or commercial purposes. We do not use advertising identifiers (such as IDFA), we do not track you across apps, and we do not share information with data brokers.

We only share data in these cases:

  • With other app users, in a limited way, when this is inherent to the social features: for example, your visible profile, your challenge progress, or your scoreboard in head-to-head matchups.
  • With service providers that give us technical services (such as hosting, transactional email, or push notification delivery), acting as data processors and only handling the data according to our instructions.

If any data is transferred outside the European Economic Area (EEA), we ensure that it happens with the appropriate safeguards required by the GDPR (such as the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission).

6. How long we keep your data

We keep your data while you have an active account and while it is needed for the purposes described above. If you delete your account or request erasure, we will delete your information within a maximum of 30 days, unless we must keep some data to comply with a legal obligation.

We keep waitlist data until we grant you access, you withdraw your request, or the beta ends. In all cases, we review and delete records that remain inactive 12 months after registration. If you withdraw your request, we will delete your waitlist data within a maximum of 30 days.

7. Your rights

You may exercise your rights at any time to:

  • Access your personal data.
  • Rectify incorrect data.
  • Erase your data.
  • Object to processing or restrict its use.
  • Receive your data in a portable format.

To exercise them, withdraw your waitlist request, or stop receiving access communications, write to us at hola@detoxmina.com with the subject line "Data Protection". You can also manage system permissions (app usage, health, notifications) directly in your device settings.

If you believe we have not respected your rights, you may file a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) at www.aepd.es.

8. Security and data minimization

Reducing the data we collect is one of our measures to limit risks. We also apply technical and organizational measures to protect the information we process against unauthorized access, loss, or alteration.

  • We collect only the data needed to provide the app and its challenges.
  • Any data that can stay on your device is processed and retained locally.
  • Selected apps, their tokens, and raw usage never leave the device.
  • We sync only the metrics needed for each challenge.
  • We apply technical and organizational measures to protect processed data.

9. Minors

Detoxmina is not intended for users below the minimum age required in your country. If we detect that we have collected data from a minor without the appropriate consent, we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to adapt to legal changes or service improvements. We will publish any change on this same page together with its update date.
